How To Make $400 A Day
I’ve been testing out different online side hustles and gig apps for years. And over this time, I’ve found ones that pay a lot and ones that aren’t even worth your time.
But in this post, I’m covering 10+ different ways you can make $400 per day. Most of these ideas require zero experience or degrees of any kind, so anyone can try them out.
1. Freelance Writing
Freelance writing accounts for a good portion of my income. Plus, it’s one of the ideas on the list that has incredibly high income potential as you gain more experience.
Freelance writing is also how Tom makes most of his income, and it’s an incredibly lucrative opportunity that isn’t hard to start either.
New freelance writers can look for jobs on Upwork, Fiverr, or even turn to content mills like Textbroker just to get their foot in the door and some pieces published.
Yes, the market is pretty competitive, but with a bit of pitching and consistent work, you can easily grow a freelance writing empire that will make $400 fast.
Keep in mind that the average freelance writer doesn’t make this much in a day when starting out, since most beginner freelance writers earn around $0.05 to $0.10 per word.
But, when you get into the $0.15 to $0.25 per word range, you can definitely make $400 in a day with your writing.
After all, you only need to write 2,000 words at $0.20 per word to make $400 a day with your freelance writing job. And, if you could do this every work day in a month, that’s around $8,800 per month in income!
Another method you can use to make $400 a day is to start your own blog. In fact, blogging is how I make the majority of my income, although it isn’t quick by any means.
You might find blogging “gurus” who tell you that you can make 5 figures a month within a half a year of blogging.
This is very unrealistic, but making $400 per day in the long term with your blog certainly isn’t!
It took my blog about 2 years of real effort to start making a decent passive revenue stream. That’s the real benefit of a blog: you make money while you sleep.
Again, figuring out how to make $400 in a day with your blog probably takes a few years, but like freelance writing, the earning ceiling with blogging is insanely high.
All you need to do is pick your blog niche, learn SEO, and consistently create awesome content that ranks on Google. This is hard work, but the formula works!
And, you don’t need to spend a fortune on your blog either.
You can start your blog with SiteGround for under $10 per month and begin working towards that $400 a day goal!
3. Make Money In The Gig Economy
If you’re willing to hustle, one realistic way to earn $400 a day is to use various gig apps to make money.
I like the gig economy since it’s flexible. So, you can still work your day job and then use some of the hours before and after your work to reach that $400 a day goal.
Several high-paying apps you can consider using include:
- DoorDash: The leading food delivery app in North America.
- Uber Eats: Another popular job like DoorDash you can use to make money on your own schedule.
- Amazon Flex: This package delivery gig pays you $18 to $25 per hour.
- Instacart: A leading gig that pays you to shop for people’s groceries.
- Shipt: Another popular grocery delivery side hustle.
- Walmart Spark: Another job like Amazon Flex that pays you to deliver groceries and everyday essentials.
- Rover: A popular dog walking and sitting gig app.
In the video above, you can see DoorDash driver Nuggs attempt to earn $400 in a day with DoorDash.
4. Online Coaching
While it might surprise you, people are willing to spend a lot of money for online coaching services if they think it’ll help them reach their goals.
And, there are plenty of popular online coaching niches out there, including:
- Business coach
- Fitness coach
- Diet coach
- Life coach
- Career coach
Tom has made money with Facebook and Google Ads coaching in the past and made $200 an hour, and that’s still pretty low in the world of online coaching.
And, you can offer a variety of coaching services as mentioned: just take a look at some of these coaching gigs on Fiverr that I found.
Some of these coaching gigs cost $100 to $150 for a single session, so you can definitely make $400 in a day if you have enough clients.
If you consider yourself an expert in any subject of life, you can start online coaching and actually get clients.
Social media is your best friend to finding clients. If you run a blog or YouTube channel, you can probably find clients from those audiences as well.
And, don’t be afraid to start group coaching calls as well. If you charge something like $50 per person per session, you only need eight clients to earn $400 dollars a day as an online coach!

5. Rent Assets You Own
Thanks to the gig economy, there are numerous sharing apps out there where you can earn passive income by renting out various assets.
Some popular examples include:
- Airbnb. Perfect for renting out your home or a spare room, and you can make $400 a day with multiple rooms or if it’s a very nice property.
- Neighbor. Rent out your spare storage space and earn income from an empty parking spot, garage, shed, or spare room.
- RVShare. Make money renting out your RV when you’re not using it and earn $50 to $100+ per night.
- Turo. Rent out your unused vehicle on Turo and start earning passive income.
It’s unlikely you can make $400 a day by renting out one asset, but with several rental gigs going simultaneously, you can certainly make $400.
You can also get more creative than just those rental options.
If you have something like film equipment, camera equipment, lighting resources, and empty studio space, you can use rental marketplaces like Fat Llama to find renters in your city.
The point is, take advantage of anything you have, but don’t use 24/7. A lot of these assets can easily rake in a few hundred bucks a day, especially on Airbnb.

This is one of the few ideas in this list that may require a degree, certification, or extensive knowledge on a subject.
However, like online coaching, consulting is also another viable way to make $400 in a day or even more depending on the industry.
Consultants often work with businesses to solve specific, complex problems, so these sorts of clients are willing to spend a lot of money for expert advice.
Here are a few industries that regularly hire consultants:
- Digital marketing
- Business Analysis
- Business Development
The best way to find consulting work is usually to turn to your own professional network and through word-of-mouth.
You can also look for gigs on Upwork, and in the past, Tom has made money both through SEO consulting and paid advertising consulting.
Again, you probably need some sort of certification or degree to be considered for consultations, but you can easily make $400 a day as a consultant.
7. Start An Ecommerce Store
If you want to make money online, starting your own online ecommerce business is another opportunity with a very high earning ceiling.
And, the best part is that you have so many options for where and how you sell stuff online.
For example, some people make passive income on Etsy, and this is an excellent starting point if you sell crafts, apparel, or anything vintage or handmade.
Now, if you sell digital products or want to run your own ecommerce store instead of selling on a marketplace, you can always start a store with Shopify.
Shopify is one of the go-to choices for ecommerce store owners, and a beginner plan only costs $29 per month, so you can start selling without much risk.
Additionally, Shopify has over 100 beautifully designed themes you can use to customize your storefront, so you don’t have to be very technically savvy to start a Shopify store.
Like blogging, making $400 a day with an online store will take time and practice, but the earning potential is there.

8. Picking Up Overtime
A lot of jobs out there pay 1.5 times or even 2 times your hourly pay if you work overtime. So, if you make something like $18 per hour at a factory job and work 20 hours of overtime at time-and-a-half, that’s $540 in additional overtime pay.
Granted, this isn’t making $400 in a day, but if your hourly rate is higher, you can definitely make that much.
One of Tom’s friends works in a brewery, and with a weekend of side hustling and some overtime, he can clear $500 to $750 in two days of work!
9. Sales Jobs
Getting into sales isn’t for everyone. You have to know how to communicate with people, be likeable, and also be willing to grind for the bulk of your monthly income.
However, a sales job can make you $400 per day through just commission if you’re good at your job and are good with people.
A close friend of mine got a sales job straight out of college and earns a ton in commissions from closing deals.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, some of the highest-paying sales jobs include:
- Sales engineers
- Wholesale and manufacturing sales representatives
- Financial sales agents
- Advertising sales agents
- Insurance sales agents
- Travel agents
Sales jobs can also become extremely lucrative if you’re selling high-ticket items. For example, at 10% revenue share, a $4,000 product would earn $400 for you!

10. Event Photographer
Event photography can be a competitive market, but with the right knowledge and a bit of editing magic, you can make a ton of cash!
People are willing to spend hundreds of dollars for a talented event photographer, and this can include gigs like:
- Graduation ceremonies
- Baby showers
- Corporate events
- Festivals and shows
Of course, you need the right gear for this job. You also need to know how to take nice photos and edit them for a high-quality, post event product.
But if you already enjoy photography as a hobby, this could be a way to make $400 a day that’s worth looking into.
After all, the average event photographer charges between $300 – $600, which is right in the ballpark of our desired daily earnings.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average bartender earns $11.39 per hour. So, this isn’t the highest-paying gig out there for most people.
However, there are also stories of bartenders and servers clearing $100,000 per year because of working in the right club or venue and earning a lot of tips.
And, if you work Friday and Saturday nights in an entertainment district or high-end restaurant, this is definitely a way to make $400 quickly if you have the right clients.
If you like working in hospitality and don’t mind some late-nights, this is definitely a job that’s worth considering, especially if you’re still in school!
12. Affiliate Marketing
If you’re good with social media, have a following, or own a high traffic asset (such as a blog or Youtube channel), affiliate marketing is another side hustle idea with immense potential.
Affiliate marketing is essentially a commission-based partnership where you promote a product and earn a small percentage of a sale when customers purchase through your link.
I make money with affiliate marketing on my blog, and so does Tom through This Online World. And This Online World can even make $1,000 a day or more sometimes if affiliate sales are good that day.
Tom’s YouTube video actually covers how he makes money with affiliate marketing in a five step-by-step process. But the key is to really develop your traffic base and to consistently grow it so you can get more people to convert every month.
And, most of the income will also be passive, meaning you won’t even have to manage it all the time. The money will be coming in while you sleep!
13. Do Odd Jobs For Cash
You’d be amazed at how much money you can make with odd jobs like hauling junk, helping people move, or gigs like landscaping.
People are often willing to pay hundreds of dollars for these sorts of gigs because they don’t have the time or energy to do it themselves.
Craigslist is one great place to find local cash jobs, and if you live in a major city, you can probably find cash gigs within a few hours if you put in enough time.
I like Steady since it asks you a questionnaire to match you with the right side hustle based on your skills, income goals, and what interests you.
Between Craigslist and Steady, you can definitely find enough gig jobs to make some serious cash in your spare time.

14. Flip Stuff For Money
Have a knack for finding deals? In the answer is yes, one way you can make extra money is to flip things for a profit.
I’ve done this in the past by selling things on the Facebook Marketplace and eBay. If you can find valuable and popular items at thrift stores, garage sales, or pawn shops, it shouldn’t be too hard to turn around and resell those items for a profit.
- Facebook Marketplace
- Poshmark (an excellent option for selling shoes, apparel, and jewelry)
- Worthy (my favorite way to sell watches, jewelry, and diamonds online)
- Your own garage sale
Building up inventory for flipping takes time. But you can reinvest earnings into more stuff to flip.
