These days, there are so many different game apps for cash that claim you can win real cash prizes by competing in tournaments against other players.
We’ve covered plenty of these apps on This Online World as well over the years. In this time, plenty of apps have been uncovered as scams, whereas some are more legitimate.
Solitaire Smash, a leading iPhone game that pays, is the app I’m covering today.
This app claims that you can win cash prizes by competing against players of a similar skill level. And it even touts tournaments that pay out $50 to $100 or more to winners.
But is Solitaire Smash legit? And does this gaming app pay real money?
I downloaded and tested out the app to find out. And this Solitaire Smash review is sharing how the app works, its earning potential, and what other players have to say about their experiences.
Let’s get to it.

What Is Solitaire Smash?
Solitaire Smash: Real Cash! is an iOS gaming app from developer Play Perfect that lets you compete in competitive Solitaire tournaments against other players to win real money.
It’s one of the most popular card game apps on the App Store. And if you’ve ever used apps like Solitaire Cash, Solitaire Clash, or Solitaire Fortune, you should know how this app works.
The game also offers free games you can play for fun and to practice. But the main way to earn money with the app is to deposit money and compete in tournaments.
Also note that there’s another Solitaire Smash app for Android gamers. This app is very similar, but it’s from a different developer, so know that this review is about the iPhone app.
Is Solitaire Smash Legit?
Yes, Solitaire Smash is legit, and you can win cash prizes by competing in tournaments. However, the app is very misleading about how easy it is to win. In reality, most players lose money with this app, and it’s a bit scammy overall.
Many reviews also claim that games are rigged and that you play against bots. Solitaire Smash refutes this claim, but this is my main concern with this category of paid gaming apps.
I also dislike the fact that you can lose way more money with this app than you make. Overall, it’s not a side hustle app I suggest using.
How Does Solitaire Smash Work?
I downloaded Solitaire Smash and played a few of the free games to learn how the app works. And after testing out the app for about 30 minutes, I have a pretty good understanding of how the app works.
All-in-all, Solitaire Smash works in four steps:
- Download the app
- Play free practice games
- Play competitive games
- Cash out
I’m going to cover how each step works in more detail. Just note I didn’t play any competitive games because I don’t want to deposit money with this app since I think it’s a bit of a scam.
1. Download & Sign Up
Solitaire Smash is free to download on the Apple App Store. Once you download the app, you enter your name and choose an avatar.
From there, you complete a quick tutorial to learn how the app works in terms of gameplay and entering tournaments. And you don’t need to create an account or enter your email address until you want to cash out.
Just note that you need to be 18 or older to download and sign up for this app.
2. Play Free Games
Like many other earn money games, Solitaire Smash lets you play free games to learn how the app works and to have fun.
These games cost gems, the in-app point system, to compete in. As a new player, you have enough gems to play in these freeroll games where you can win even more gems to begin stashing up.
As for gameplay, it’s like regular Solitaire. The difference is that you’re competing against other players and have a three minute time limit. Everyone has identical decks, which is why Solitaire Smash is considered skill-based.
The goal is to get a higher score than your opponents, and the top players in a tournament game with a share of the prize pool. This is the same system real money games like Bingo Smash and Solitaire Cube use, so it’s nothing new.
I won my first Solitaire Smash game and then placed in the middle of the pack for my second one. Overall, this let me win some gems, but didn’t pay any real cash.
If you win enough gems, you can use them to buy-in to occasional tournaments that pay a few dollars. But realistically, you need to deposit your own money to buy-in to competitive tournaments.
3. Compete In Tournaments
As mentioned, the main way to earn money online with Solitaire Smash is to compete in tournament matches.
These games typically cost a few dollars to enter and pay winners with cash and games. Tournament prizes range from $5 all the way to $100 to $120 or more for the most competitive games.
As you can see from my Solitaire Smash account in the screenshot above, the higher-paying tournaments can cost $5 to $20 to even compete in.
This might seem like a great way to get quick money. But remember: if you don’t do well in tournaments, you lose the money you spent to enter it.
Also note that cash games aren’t available in these states:
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Montana
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
Free play tournaments are still permitted where cash tournaments aren’t available.
4. Cash Out
If you end up earning money with Solitaire Smash, you can cash out to your bank account or through methods like Apple Pay or PayPal money.
The app has all sorts of flashy cash bonus offers as well to encourage you to deposit money and compete. But again, this isn’t a guaranteed side hustle at all.
Also note that the app requires your Social Security number in order to cash out any winnings per its terms of service. You can also pay all types of sneaky fees when you cash out, which I really dislike.
Also, you can’t cash out bonus cash! So, many players make deposits thinking they can eventually cash out this sign up bonus. But this is just another trick Solitaire Smash uses to get money from you.
Is Solitaire Smash A Scam?
Solitaire Smash isn’t technically a scam, but the app is very misleading. Its advertisements make it seem like earning cash is very easy. In reality, you can lose a lot of money with this app, and there’s no way to know if games are rigged or not.
I also dislike the fees you pay to cash out and the fact that you can’t actually withdraw any bonus cash.
When you consider how many legit real money apps there are that don’t require spending money, I think skipping Solitaire Smash is a good call.

Does Solitaire Smash Pay Real Money?
Yes, Solitaire Smash pays real money, and you can cash out if you win enough tournament games. However, there are hidden fees you have to factor in. And you can’t withdraw any of the bonus cash the app pays you by encouraging you to make deposits.
Again, this is a pretty misleading system overall. And plenty of higher-paying apps don’t require spending money to try and make money.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Free games are available
- The app is easy to use
Cons:
- Not available on Android devices.
- You can lose money with this app
- It’s impossible to know if games are rigged
- Users report game gets increasingly more difficult to compete and express concerns about bot play
- You can’t withdraw bonus cash
- You need to provide your SSN to cash out
Other Solitaire Smash Reviews
After testing out some free games on Solitaire Smash, I’m definitely not going to make a deposit and use the app more. The fact games might be rigged is just too much of a red flag.
But one way to see if an online side hustle idea is worth it or not is to read testimonials from other players. And, thankfully, there are plenty of Solitaire Smash reviews on the app store where players share their experiences:
- bouncymacaw says: “This game uses bots to make you waste your money. Every single match finishes within 7-8 minutes no matter what. If you were really only playing against real people, some games would take longer to finish.”
- Theoneandfinall says: “This game is a complete cash grab. Yes I was able to win a little money out of it being around $80 in total after months. Now?? I can’t remember the last time I’ve actually won an actual cash game, or gem for that matter. This is not a coincidence, either the developers are rigging the game, or people are cheating.”
- coachmac15 says: “I’m so mad, I really like playing this but it keeps putting me in a skill group with savants who are getting scores of 10,000 and 11,000 … who are these people and are they even human? I high five myself when I get over 9,000!”
- One user says: “This app is such a scam, I play so fast and make a good score but when the match ends, people (bots) on higher positions end with x4 times the score I make and it’s always 8–8.9k. There is no way somebody can do that.”
As you can see, a lot of recent reviews say that this app is a cash grab and that games are rigged.
Some reviews are most positive, but for the most part, users seem frustrated about the inability to withdraw bonus cash and how challenging games are.
Because of these reviews and concerns about bots, I think you’re better off with other game apps.
The Best Solitaire Smash Alternatives
Since we don’t think Solitaire Smash is worth using, I want to cover some legitimate alternatives you can use to make more money each month.
Thankfully, there are plenty of gaming apps and gpt sites you can use to make money on the side:

- Swagbucks: A popular rewards site that lets you make money with surveys, downloading apps, shopping online, watching ads, and more.
- Match To Win: A fun cash puzzle game you can also test out.
- Buff: A popular PC gaming rewards platform you can use to get free Steam games, gift cards, and merchandise.
- Cash Giraffe: A leading Android gaming app with free gift cards and PayPal cash prizes.
Tom also made a video where he shares some of his favorite gaming apps for money that you can use instead of Solitaire Smash.
If you want to earn money online as a beginner, websites like Branded Surveys and Swagbucks are a great starting point. But you can always combine these apps and sites to earn as much as possible.

Is Solitaire Smash Real Or Fake?
Solitaire Smash is real and isn’t a fake app, and the app is run by a reputable developer and lets players win real money. However, its advertisements are somewhat misleading, and many players report losing money and claim games are rigged.
If you want some less risky alternatives, I suggest reading our post on the best ways to get free money.
Final Thoughts
I hope my Solitaire Smash review helps you decide if this app is legit and worth using.
If you like playing Solitaire and want to grind out enough free gem games to win some money, you can give this app a try. And it’s also a competitive app that might appeal to some gamers.
However, there are plenty of other phone jobs or legit and free online jobs you can use instead that pay more. Plus, these ideas don’t involve potentially losing money.
