I remember playing Solitaire on an old Dell computer when we’d go on road trips or if the internet went out at our house for a while.
There’s something nostalgic and almost calming about playing Solitaire. And, maybe you play this card game regularly as a way to unwind.
But what if you could play Solitaire on your phone and actually win cash?
Well, that’s what the Solitaire Cash app says it lets you do. In fact, the app is one of the most popular card game apps out there, and it says you can potentially win hundreds of dollars in its skill-based card game.
But is Solitaire Cash legit? And does it actually pay real money?
Our Solitaire Cash review is covering how this app works and why I think it’s not worth downloading.
What Is Solitaire Cash?
Solitaire Cash is a popular mobile app for iOS that lets you play Solitaire games for cash prizes. The app is in the top five most popular card game apps on both app stores and has millions of downloads to date.
Solitaire Cash is very similar to other paid gaming apps from companies like Skillz. The idea is that players can compete against other players in skill-based card games to earn real cash prizes.
The app uses a skill-based matchmaking system, so when you play in tournament games, you’re theoretically playing against other people of a similar skill level.
Top tournament players win cash prizes, and the app advertises that you can potentially win hundreds of dollars for winning tournaments.
This sounds like a very lucrative way to make money online, but as we’ll explain, this isn’t the right side hustle for everyone and isn’t as legit as advertisements make it seem.

How Does Solitaire Cash Work?
Getting started with Solitaire Cash takes three simple steps:
- Download and sign up.
- Play freeroll tournaments.
- Play cash tournaments.
Let’s cover how the entire process works!
1. Sign Up
As mentioned, Solitaire Cash is only available for iOS at the time of writing. It’s free to download, and you can play free tournament games or cash games for the chance to win real money.
Note that you must be 18 or older to play Solitaire Cash. Additionally, cash games aren’t available in the following U.S. states:
- Arizona
- Arkansas
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Louisiana
- Maine
- Maryland
- Montana
- South Carolina
- South Dakota
Once you sign up, you enter your player name and can complete a quick walkthrough game the app prompts you to play. This goes over how the app works, but if you’ve ever played Solitaire, you’ll pick things up very quickly.
You can then play free games if you want to just play Solitaire for fun, although most people will probably download this app to try and make quick money, so that’s what this review is focusing on.
2. Play Freeroll Tournaments
The first way to play games for cash with Solitaire Cash is to participate in “freeroll” games. These games require gems to enter instead of cash, and you can earn gems in several ways:
- Watching ads within the app
- Earning experience and leveling up your account by playing free games
- Regularly logging into the Solitaire Cash app
You can also earn $1 to your account if you refer your friends to the app. But grinding out free gems is realistically the only way to win free money from Solitaire Cash.
It takes around 120 gems to enter a cash game, but buy-ins vary depending on how large the cash prize is. Some games pay around $5 to $7 for winning, while other tournaments can pay the winning player hundreds of dollars.
In short, this means days or weeks of grinding to get enough gems to enter a freeroll tournament.
This is the exact same system Bubble Cash, the other major app from Solitaire Cash’s parent company Papaya Gaming, operates with.
3. Pay To Enter Tournaments
The other way to make money with Solitaire Cash is to buy-in to cash tournaments. Different games have various buy-in requirements and payout amounts.
For example, you can pay $7 to play Adrenaline Rush tournaments and potentially win $20 if you beat all the other players. But some tournaments cost gems and cash to enter and have larger payouts.
It’s important to note that while you’re playing with other players, your screen and games are individual. But the player who completes the game with the highest score and in faster tims beats other players.
Also note: If you lose a Solitaire Cash tournament, you lose your buy-in. This is why the game involves gambling, and there is a real risk you lose money playing this game instead of making it!
This is a massive red flag for side hustles if you ask me, and it’s why I dislike apps like Solitaire Cash, Blackout Bingo, and Lucktastic.
Is Solitaire Cash Legit?
In my opinion, Solitaire Cash isn’t legit because it’s a highly misleading app. It lures players in with small amounts of bonus cash and gems if they deposit real money. And it also makes it seem like making money is very easy with the app through its advertisements.
In reality, there’s a very good chance you lose money if you deposit money into this app. And there’s no way of knowing if you’re actually playing against real humans or if the games are rigged and you’re playing computers.
And some other Solitaire Cash players agree. This is what one user is saying on Reddit about their experience with the app:
- mikemjr says: “Played for a few months. Got up to over 20,000 credits. Then started playing freeroll that is 1200 credits to play. Played 14 games, never finished above 4th place. The games that pay real cash are won by bots. No way I could play 14 straight games and never finish higher than 4th.”
Mike raises a very good point like I did; you can’t tell if you’re playing against a rigged computer or actual real players.
And to make matters worse, the app displays advertisements so frequently if you want to earn more gems. And it also makes it incredibly hard to win free gift cards or reach enough coins to ever cash out free PayPal cash rewards or other prizes.
Other Solitaire Cash Reviews
If you search for other Solitaire Cash reviews, you find lots of positive reviews from bloggers. But what you might not know is that these bloggers are affiliates for Solitaire Cash and get paid if you download the app through their link!
I think these bloggers are being dishonest. And if you read some reviews on the app store, I think the positive ones largely sound fake and don’t seem like they’re written by a human either.
However, this Solitaire Cash app review from YouTuber Brilliance Films provides a great overview of why they think Solitaire Cash is a scam:
In this video, Brilliance Films explains how the app makes it practically impossible to redeem free Amazon gift cards. You always get close to having enough points to cash out, but never quite enough.
And you also have to think about this from a math perspective.
Solitaire Cash takes a small percentage of earnings from tournaments, and the rest go to the top percentage of winning players. This means most players have to lose money; there’s not enough to go around for everyone.
Solitaire Cash claims this is a skill-based system to skirt some gambling laws in the United States, but I’m not buying it.
Better Alternatives To Try
I think Solitaire Cash is a waste of time and potential waste of money. Thankfully, there are still plenty of other legit ways you can make extra money in your spare time.
Some better alternatives to Solitaire Cash you can use include:
- Gig Apps: You can make more money with gigs like DoorDash or Amazon Flex than you ever can with Solitaire Cash.
- Branded Surveys: An effective way to share your opinion for PayPal money and gift cards.
- Survey Junkie: Another leading gpt site that pays you with gift cards and free cash.
- Gamehag: Play leading PC games to win free Steam games, gift cards, and other video game prizes.
What I like about these alternatives is that you don’t need to risk your money to potentially win money like you do with Solitaire Cash. Overall, I think these apps and gigs are a way better use of time if you want to make some extra money.

Solitaire Cash isn’t an outright scam, and some players do make money with the app. But most players probably lose money, and the app makes it very difficult to win prizes unless you risk your real money.

There aren’t any Solitaire Cash hacks you can use to get free gems or cash. If you see Solitaire Cash gem generators or referral code hacks online, they’re all scams and are likely phishing for your personal or financial information.
How Does Solitaire Cash Make Money?
Solitaire Cash makes money by taking a small percentage of tournament winnings from every game. It also makes money by having users watch ads in order to earn free gems.
Final Thoughts
I don’t think Solitaire Cash is legit or worth downloading. And I think the bloggers that promote this app without disclaiming the risks or concerns are choosing money above writing reviews with integrity. Our bottom line is that you should stay away from this app and not look back.
Besides, there are so many free apps you can use to play Solitaire if this is just a hobby of yours.
And, there are actually legit apps that pay you to play games out there, like Mistplay or Rewarded Play, that you can use instead.
Hopefully, this Solitaire Cash review helps you decide if this app deserves a spot on your phone or not!
