Working from home doesn’t have to mean getting another traditional job.
There are actually plenty of sneaky ways to make extra money from your couch, spare bedroom, phone, or even your unused driveway.
I’ve tested a lot of different side hustles over the years, and some of the easiest ones don’t require much experience at all.
Here are eight of my favorite ways to make money from home.
1. Answer Surveys For Money
Let’s start with one of the easiest ways to make money from home: answering surveys.
Market research companies want opinions from everyday people, so you can get paid for answering questions about everything from shopping habits to entertainment and your favorite brands.
A few survey websites worth checking out include:
- TopSurveys – An excellent option for paid online surveys with PayPal cash and gift card rewards.
- Survey Junkie – One of the more established survey sites, with surveys covering a wide range of topics.
- Branded Surveys – A popular option that lets you earn points by completing surveys and participating in other activities.
The key with surveys is not to expect a full-time income. Instead, use them as an easy way to make some extra cash while watching TV, taking a lunch break, or sitting around at home.

2. Get Paid For Your Data
Here’s a more passive way to make money from home.
Companies like Nielsen Panel and Nielsen Pulse reward people for sharing information about their internet, app, media, and device usage.
Depending on the program you’re eligible for, you may need to install an app or software on your devices. The service then collects certain usage information for market research.
The big advantage is that you’re not sitting there answering hundreds of questions.
Once you’re set up, participation can happen in the background while you use your devices normally.
It’s not going to replace your day job, but it’s an interesting little side hustle because there’s relatively little ongoing work.
3. Make Money With AI Training Gigs
AI is getting smarter, but somebody still has to help train these systems.
That’s where AI training gigs come in.
Companies and platforms such as Micro1 and Mercor connect workers with opportunities involving things like evaluating AI responses, reviewing data, coding, writing, research, and other specialized tasks.
The work can vary considerably depending on your background.
If you have skills in coding, writing, math, science, languages, or other specialized areas, these opportunities can be particularly interesting.
And unlike surveys, you’re actually using a skill to contribute to AI projects.
Just keep in mind that availability can be inconsistent. Some projects are temporary, competitive, or require you to pass an assessment before you can start.
4. Rent Out Your Extra Space
If you have unused space at home, you might already have a money-making asset sitting there.
For example:
- Neighbor lets people rent out extra storage and parking space.

- And if you have a swimming pool that spends most of the year sitting unused, Swimply lets you rent it out by the hour.
The best part about this side hustle is that you’re monetizing something you already own.
You don’t necessarily need to work more hours. You just need to find a way to put your unused space to work.
5. Sell Your Internet Bandwidth
Here’s a weird one.
You can actually get paid for sharing some of your unused internet bandwidth.
Apps like Honeygain allow users to share their unused connection with the platform in exchange for rewards.
Other bandwidth-sharing apps and services work in a similar way.
The idea is pretty simple: you install the software, allow it to run, and the platform uses your connection for certain business purposes.
This is another example of a relatively passive side hustle.
However, I wouldn’t expect huge earnings from it. Your earnings can depend on things like your location, internet connection, demand, and how much bandwidth you make available.
And as always, read the terms carefully before installing any app that uses your internet connection.
6. Use Get-Paid-To Sites
Get-paid-to, or GPT, websites are basically online rewards platforms that give you different ways to earn.
Instead of doing just surveys, you can often find things like games, app offers, surveys, sign-up offers, and other online tasks.
Three sites worth checking out are:

- Freecash – Has a large selection of surveys, games, apps, and other offers.
- Swagbucks – One of the most established rewards platforms, with surveys, shopping, games, searches, and other ways to earn.
I like GPT sites because you can jump between different earning methods.
If one survey is a terrible match for you, you can simply try a game or another offer instead.

7. Earn Cashback For Buying Home Essentials
You’re going to buy groceries, household supplies, clothing, electronics, and other essentials anyway.
So why not get some of your money back?
Cashback websites and apps can reward you for shopping through their platforms or submitting receipts after making purchases.
Some worth checking out include:
- Fetch – Scan eligible receipts after shopping to earn points that can be redeemed for rewards.
- Rakuten – Earn cashback by starting your online shopping through Rakuten’s participating retailers.
- ShopBack – Earn cashback when you shop through participating stores.
This isn’t technically “making money” in the traditional sense.
But saving $10 on something you were already going to buy is effectively $10 you didn’t have to spend.
The trick is to use cashback platforms before shopping rather than buying things just because there’s a cashback offer.
8. Sell Stuff You Don’t Need Anymore
Finally, look around your house.
Seriously.
There’s a good chance you have hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of stuff sitting around that you don’t use anymore.
Old electronics. Clothes. Furniture. Tools. Collectibles. Video games. Kitchen appliances. Sports equipment.
You can list these items on marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Poshmark, or other local selling platforms.
And this can be one of the fastest ways to make money from home because you’re not waiting for a company to approve you for a gig.
You’re simply turning stuff you already own into cash.
My favorite strategy is to start with the easy stuff.
Open your closets, basement, garage, and storage areas and find 5–10 things you haven’t used in the last year.
Take some decent photos, write honest descriptions, price them competitively, and see what happens.
You might be surprised by how much money is hiding in your home.
