If you’re anything like me, you grew up watching and loving Disney movies.
And, if your house or parents house is anything like mine, your basement is probably full of old Disney VHS tapes right now.
These tapes are a nostalgic blast-from-the-past in a box. And, they might also be a nifty side hustle idea if you know what to look for.
That’s right: it’s possible to sell Disney VHS tapes for money, so you can turn that collection of tapes into cold hard cash.
Time to dive into where to sell Disney VHS tapes and how you can tell if your collection is worth anything in the first place.
What Influences Old Disney VHS Tape Prices?
When it comes to selling collectibles, there are a few factors that typically contribute to valuation.
It really doesn’t matter if you’re selling Yugioh cards or Disney VHS tapes; there’s a few things you should look for, including:
- Age: Older movies are typically harder to find and are therefore rarer.
- Condition: Sealed Disney VHS tapes are the most valuable kind since they’ve never been opened.
- Demand: The most popular movies fetch the highest prices versus lesser-known films.
Now, in the case of Disney VHS movies, most tapes aren’t worth much money unfortunately.
However, Disney VHS tapes with a Black Diamond on the spine of the tape box can be more valuable.
This is because the Black Diamond signifies a tape is one of the first VHS tapes Disney sold and came out between 1984 and 1994.
That said, most of these tapes are still worth $2 to $10 max, so you’re not going to get a fortune from selling them.
Granted, unopened Disney VHS tapes in great condition can fetch a higher price, and the same goes for very rare Black Diamond boxes.
I’ll cover some Black Diamond VHS prices later in this post so you have some rough figure in your head, but know that most tapes aren’t worth a ton of money.
The Best Places To Sell Disney VHS Tapes
You might not get thousands of dollars for selling old Disney VHS tapes, but a large collection could still bring in a lot of cash.
So, let’s jump into some of the best places to sell Disney VHS movies so you can make some easy money.
Collectibles are almost always popular on eBay, and this global marketplace is one of the first places people search when they’re looking for something more niche.
So, if you have a collection of Disney VHS tapes, you might as well list them on eBay to see if you get any bites.
You can list them individually or as a bundle if you want to get rid of your inventory faster.
Listing on eBay is free, and you pay a 12.35% fee on most items.
This is pretty steep, but there are over 100,000 Disney VHS tapes for sale right now on eBay, so you pay a premium to list on such a popular marketplace.
Many Black Diamond Disney tapes sell for $5 to $25 or more as well, so you can make some quick cash with older tapes.
2. The Facebook Marketplace
Selling stuff on the Facebook Marketplace is another quick way to turn an old collection into extra cash.
And, an advantage of selling through Facebook versus online selling is that you don’t have to pay selling fees.
Furthermore, you can sell in-person for cash, so it’s a bit more under the table.
The downside is that you probably have to negotiate with potential buyers and then arrange a time to meet.
Plus, many people selling Disney VHS tapes sell entire collections on Facebook, so you’re getting less value than selling individual tapes on eBay.
That said, this is still one of the best ways to sell your old Disney movies, especially if you prefer cash sales.
Mercari is a leading selling app that lets you sell basically anything you can think of.
Some popular things to sell on Mercari include:
- Video games
- Vintage goods
However, when I searched for Disney VHS tapes on Mercari, I found over 1,000 listings, so this niche is quite popular on this marketplace.
A lot of sellers offer collections, but you can also find many sealed and rare Disney VHS tapes for sale for around $30.
And, one reason many people prefer Mercari over eBay is that you only pay a 10% seller fee, so it’s slightly more affordable.
Listing is also completely free, so you can always try Mercari in addition to other Mercari alternatives.
4. Garage Sales
Another way to make money selling Disney VHS movies is to host your own garage sale.
A garage sale is a classic yet effective way to do some Spring cleaning and make a bit of money.
So, you can sell your old movie collection, electronics, board games, and whatever other stuff you have laying around that you don’t need anymore.
Just be sure to put up flyers in the surrounding area and to try and host your garage sale on a weekend with good weather.
While it might surprise you, Etsy is another one of the best places to sell Disney VHS tapes.
Etsy is a popular online marketplace for anything handmade or vintage. However, plenty of shop owners are selling retro finds like old VHS tapes.
A lot of Disney VHS tapes on Etsy go for around $5 to $20, so you need quite a few sales to make serious cash.
That said, Etsy is relatively affordable compared to a lot of marketplaces.
It costs $0.20 to list an item for four months, and Etsy charges around 5% in transaction fees per sale.

6. Pawn Shops
Pawning stuff for money is another popular way to make extra money when you’re in a pinch.
Now, a pawn shop probably isn’t interested in taking a single VHS tape or two off your hands for some cash.
But, if you have an expensive collection of old Disney VHS tapes for sale that are still in good condition, a shop in your area might be interested in buying them from you.
OfferUp is another popular online marketplace where people sell products from numerous categories, including:
- Clothing and accessories
- Baby and kid products
- Pet supplies
- Sports cards
- Video games
When I search for Disney and kids movies, I find plenty of offers for single movies or entire collections.
A lot of sellers in my area are selling Disney VHS movies for $1 to $5 a pop or entire collections for $50 to $100.
So, if you have a large collection, OfferUp is definitely a reliable choice to make some cash online.
Despite being an ancient website at this point, another place to sell off collections of stuff is Craigslist.
I’d probably try options like eBay and Mercari first, but there’s no harm in listing your Disney VHS tapes for sale on Craigslist to see if you get any bites.
Like Facebook, you might have to deal with some haggling and lowball offers, so keep this aspect in mind.
But if you prefer cash sales and don’t want to deal with shipping anything, Craigslist and the Facebook Marketplace are your best options.
How Much Are My Old Disney VHS Tapes Worth?
If you have a large collection of VHS tapes for sale, it’s important to know which movies have the highest prices.
All of the films I’m about to mention are Black Diamond since these are the most valuable types of Disney movies.
Note: To find approximate prices, I looked on eBay for lists of Disney VHS movies that people sold and for how much the final sale was.
Here are some of the most expensive Disney VHS tapes and their approximate prices on eBay:
- Aladin: $10 to $80.
- Bambi: $15 to $30
- Beauty And The Beast: $20 to $150
- Cinderella: $30 to $150
- Dumbo: $10 to $80
- Jungle Book: $30 to $100
- Lady And The Tramp: $5 to $50
- Peter Pan: $15 to $45
- Pinocchio: $5 to $40
- Robin Hood: $5 to $40
- Sleeping Beauty: $10 to $150
- Snow White: $20 to $125
- Sword In The Stone: $5 to $50
- The Little Mermaid: $10 to $50
- The Rescuers: $10 to $50
- 101 Dalmatians: $15 to $45
Again, look for that Black Diamond on the spine of your VHS box since this is a sign you might have valuable VHS tapes on your hands.
Also note that you might stumble across eBay listings selling Disney VHS tapes for thousands of dollars.
Remember: this is the listing price and not exactly representative of what the average buyer is willing to pay.
Another note: A Black Diamond doesn’t guarantee you can sell a VHS tape for a lot of money.
It’s a misconception that Disney VHS tapes sell for thousands of dollars. There are so many of them out there, so even the rare ones often only go for $5 to $20 unless you find a very serious buyer who is a collector.

What Do Other Sellers Think?
One great way to maximize profits with any side hustle is to learn from other people who are already doing it.
So, what do other flippers think?
Well, there are lots of useful Reddit threads from r/Flipping, r/eBay, and r/VHS on where to sell Disney VHS movies for money.
Here’s what some sellers say in one thread:
- freebasetarsier says: “You’ll be lucky to get $20 even for the “rare” ones.”
- mywordswillgowithyou says: “Factory sealed sell better. Used sell for a few dollars with free shipping.”
- frequencyz says: “Sold a few over the past few months (couple of Mulans, Jungle Book, Lilo and Stitch, Bambi and Lion King). Definately long tail and expect to get around 3-4 dollars a piece. Some of the older Disney Cartoons (golden clamshells) are decent and you can sometimes get about 5-10. Don’t buy into all the Black Diamond nonsense.”
This is honestly very good advice and again, don’t believe the hype when people say you can sell tapes for thousands of bucks a pop.
The bottom line is most old Disney VHS tapes sell for $2 to $10, even if they’re Black Diamonds.
Tips For Selling Disney VHS Tapes For Cash
Now that you know the best places to sell Disney VHS tapes, here are a few tips you should keep in mind to make your selling process more successful:
- Know Your Numbers: If you have a rare collection, make sure you do your research! See what other people are selling their VHS tapes for online so you know how to price yourself and avoid lowball offers.
- Sell In Bulk: Since most Disney VHS tapes aren’t worth a lot of money, it’s not worth nickle and diming your way through each individual sale. To save time, many sellers offer entire collections for sale and at a slight discount.
- Don’t Waste Time: Like I just mentioned, you need to value your time. If someone is wasting time on a deal or trying to lowball you, it’s not worth negotiating with them.
Hopefully, these tips help you sell your Disney VHS tapes and turn an old collection into free money.
I hope our guide on where to sell Disney VHS tapes gives you a headstart in liquidating your collection.
Honestly, Disney movies will always have a fond place in the hearts of millions of people around the world.
So, my only advice is to maybe not sell your entire collection if you want to hold onto a few movies or pass them on to someone special later in life.
But hey, if you need some quick cash, by all means, it’s time to get selling!
