If you research ways to make money online before, then you’ve probably come across survey sites.
Paid survey sites are a quick and simple way to make a few bucks a day in your spare time without needing any prior skills.
Some of the more popular sites like Survey Junkie and Swagbucks have given out millions of dollars to users to this day.
But today, I’m covering Toluna, another paid survey site that’s also growing in popularity.
I signed up for this site to test out how it works. And in my Toluna review, I’m covering earning potential, how to get started, and all the pros and cons of using this platform.
Let’s dive in!
What Is Toluna?
Toluna is a Paris-based research company that began in 2000. The platform lets you make money by answering surveys, testing different products, answering polls, and playing games to make extra money.
In other words, Toluna is a get-paid-to website where you can make money by completing a variety of short online tasks and by sharing your opinion.
Most Toluna users are on the platforms to make a bit of cash from answering surveys, but Toluna also has a community section on their site.
The community section essentially acts like a social media app where you can discuss your opinions on certain things like “Favorite Meal: Dinner vs Breakfast”.
The bottom line is that this is a robust survey site with several ways to earn rewards, and it’s also completely free to use.
How Does Toluna Work?
I signed up for Toluna to try it out before writing this review. It’s a pretty beginner-friendly way to make money online, and if you’ve used a paid survey site before, it should feel familiar.
Earning rewards with Toluna takes nine simple steps:
- Sign up for Toluna
- Complete Toluna surveys
- Answer sponsored polls
- Play games to earn prizes
- Complete your profile
- Win contests
- Refer friends
- Use the Toluna mobile app
- Cash out
Let’s dive into how each of these features works.
1. Sign Up For Toluna
You have to be 16 or older and have a working PayPal account to sign up for Toluna. Currently, Toluna accepts members from 70+ countries, including the United States, UK, and Canada.
To sign up for Toluna, head over to its website and click the “sign up” button.
You sign up with your email and create a password. After signing up, you also complete a brief profile questionnaire where you include information like your:
- Date of birth
After completing your profile, you activate your account by clicking on a link Toluna emails you.
The final step is using Toluna is to finish off your profile. This involves answeing another quick survey about yourself in order to get accurate surveys that are more relevant to you.
This is a very common onboarding practice for survey sites, and Toluna asks you questions about your demographics, employment, yearly income, and education.
After this initial survey is complete, you can officially start using Toluna!
2. Complete Toluna Surveys
Answering surveys is definitely the main way to make money with this side hustle.
You access available Toluna surveys by going to the navigation menu at the top of the website, hovering over “Surveys”, and clicking “Survey Center”.
The cool thing about Toluna is that it offers you 2 different surveys to start.
The first type of survey are ones that take under 10 minutes while the second type take over 10 minutes.
This flexibility means you can use Toluna to make extra money even if you just have a few minutes, but longer surveys are still available if you have more time on your hands.
The first real survey I received took 5 minutes to complete and asked me about which advertisements I trusted.
Many Toluna surveys pay $0.25 to $1 but you can find surveys that pay $1 to $2 or more if you get a bit lucky.
Generally, Toluna surveys ask you questions about consumer preferences, health, politics, or even about specific brands.
The surveys are all pretty straightforward and earn you points as you complete them.
Just note that Toluna asks for your qualifications before every survey. This means you sometimes spend time answering a few survey questions only to get disqualified, which is a downside.
3. Answer Sponsored Polls
Another way to make money with Toluna Surveys is to answer short sponsored polls. This is similar to a Swagbucks hack which is to answer a one-question Swagbucks poll to earn some daily points.
Toluna polls are basically short polls the entire community can answer to earn bonus points.
Polls are usually one question or just a few questions, but they only pay a few points, so you’re earning much less than with regular surveys.
However, after doing them for a while, the points will definitely add up which makes it worth it.
Each sponsored poll pays you 15 points on Toluna, whereas the average survey earns you around 3,000 points.
You can also upvote, downvote, or share the poll on other social media. This is where their community section comes into play.
4. Play Toluna Games
There are a variety of websites that pay you PayPal cash for playing games, and Toluna is one of these websites.
Toluna games are under the drop down menu of the community section on the website.
This section lets you play different games to earn points, so it’s basically a way to make money playing video games.
However, Toluna has a limited selection of games, and again, playing games doesn’t pay you nearly as many points as answering surveys does.
Currently, my dashboard always shows the same three games in rotation:
- Scratch The Ticket
- The Toluna Photo Booth
- The Christmas Detective
Some of them change based on the month or season, but they’re all relatively similar. All of the games basically lead back to the ticket scratcher game where you can earn a random number of points.
If you miss, you have to take a survey to unlock another scratcher. All in all, it’s pretty useless unless you have nothing else to complete on the platform.
If you want to play games for money, you’re way better off using websites like Gamehag, Rewarded Play, and Mistplay since the game selection and reward options are much better than Toluna.
5. Complete Your Profile
Toluna has a “Profile Surveys” section where it asks you questions based on your personal specifications.
In order to complete them, you have to finish filling in your profile.
Head over to the “Surveys” drop down menu and select the “Profile Surveys” button. This redirects you to the page where you can complete your profile.
Each section you complete gives you 100 points and there are about 12 different sections.
It’s a pretty easy 1,200 points, and completing your profile unlocks more survey opportunities so you can make more money with Toluna overall.
Some of the profile sections include home and family, media, health, shopping, internet, and more.
6. Win Contests
Toluna runs small contests on its platform for users to earn some extra points once in a while. The contests are pretty hard and are mostly based on educated guesses (which makes it fair for the most part).
If you win, you can earn 1,000 points or more depending on the contest size and criteria.
You usually have to post a guess or start some sort of discussion about the answer to qualify for the contest.
Most of the time, there’s more than 1 winner, but the points are not split up if you win.
You can find the contests in your notification menu when they’re posted. This isn’t a guaranteed way to make money with Toluna, but if you get lucky, it’s a nice perk.
7. Refer Friends
No survey site is complete without a referral program. As you might have guessed, Toluna has one as well.
You earn 500 points for every person you invite to Toluna.
You can only refer 10 people per month with the Toluna referral program, but for most people, this isn’t a limitation. Access your unique referral link by going to your account and selecting “Invite a Friend” in your account menu.
On the app, you can also find your referral link in the “Account” tab.
8. Use The Toluna App
Toluna has a free mobile app for Android and iOS that’s called Toluna Influencers.
Toluna Influencers is basically like the survey section on the web version of Toluna and lets you make money with your phone.
The points you earn sync with your main Toluna account, and overall, this is an effective way to make a bit of extra cash while you’re on the go.
9. Cash Out With Toluna Rewards
Toluna pays you with Paypal cash or electronic gift cards depending on your preference.
As mentioned, you need 30,000 points to cash out most Toluna rewards, which is worth $10.
Here are some Toluna gift cards you can redeem:
- Best Buy
- Cheesecake Factory
There are about 32 different rewards options that you can redeem on Toluna when you have enough points.
Note that this is for Toluna US; different countries still have PayPal money and free gift cards, but you might have fewer options.
Keep in mind that Paypal withdrawals require a minimum of 35,000 points, which is still worth $10.
You get more value out of gift cards than you do with Paypal, so reconsider your choices before instantly going with Paypal.

Is Toluna Legit?
Toluna is a legit survey website that lets you make money for completing short online tasks. The company has been around since 2000, and there’s plenty of payment proof and positive online testimonials to back up the website. Toluna also pays on time, and there’s a variety of reward options for you to choose from.
In rare cases, you’ll see a negative review about late payment or some other issue, but Toluna is transparent about their service.
However, most negative reviews result from Toluna’s low earning potential, but this doesn’t mean the website isn’t legit.
Toluna is a reliable survey site, but the earning potential is very low. So, while it might be a safe app, it might not be worth using long term.
Also note that other sites like Branded Surveys and Survey Junkie let you cash out at just $5, while Toluna has a $10 minimum cash out requirement.
How Much Does Toluna Pay?
This wouldn’t be an honest Toluna review without going over the earning potential of the platform.
On Toluna, $1 = approximately 3,000 points. Most rewards require $10 to cash out, so this means you need approximately 30,000 points to cash out for your first time.
You can take a survey and get 5,000 points in about 10 minutes, but that doesn’t mean you can take a ton of surveys in a day.
The main drawback of Toluna is that you run out of surveys or high-paying surveys you actually want to do pretty quickly.
Tihs means most people can earn 5,000 points in a day or so on Toluna. After that, you’re better off using higher-paying survey sites like Survey Junkie and Pinecone Research.
In summary, Toluna pays an average of $1-2 per day and it takes a long time to rack up points.
The earning potential is very low, which is why you might be better off with a gig economy job like driving for DoorDash or other survey site (such as Prolific).

Other Toluna Reviews
One of the best ways to tell if a beermoney website is worth using is to see what other real users are saying.
So, what do other Toluna Survey reviews say?
Well, in a recent Reddit thread, several beermoney Redditors share their experiences with using Toluna to make money:
- warkingler777 says: “No problem. a little sideline, but to slow to earn but its okay.”
- autumninnovember says: “It’s legit but the survey count is too limited and very slow to earn.”
- wildneonsins says: “Used to do Toluna surveys (not sure if this is a new site),. Cashed out in the past but ended up with the surveys being too long & had too many screen outs, so stopped bothering with them. They used to take points off your balance if you didn’t log in often enough &/or reach payout to spend them soon enough.”
- Calobrena says: “It’s a legit site. However, surveys are hit and miss. Most users earn their points from posting content and participating in site contests. Depending on the reward you want from the reward shop, it’s going to take a while to get. Definitely not a site to solely rely on; but, a nice addition to other sites you participate on.”
As you can see, the consensus seems to be that Toluna is legit and pays users. However, it’s a slow earner, and you run out of high-paying surveys pretty quickly.
Calobrena’s advice is pretty spot on: you can use Toluna in addition to other paid survey sites, but it shouldn’t be your only option since other sites often pay more.
In this Toluna review, YouTuber Survey Sites & GPT Reviews shares his experience with using Toluna as well.
This is a great YouTube channel and resource because it provides an in-depth look at what it’s like to use Toluna and how the features work.
It’s a very honest review as well, and he shares how you can use Toluna to make a bit of extra pocket change but that you can’t use it to replace your day job or make hundreds of dollars.

Pros & Cons
If you want a quick way to determine whether or not Toluna is legit and worth using, hopefully this pros and cons list help you decide:
- Easy to sign up
- Available on website and app
- Works in over 70 different countries
- Offers multiple ways to earn
- Lots of rewards options
- Low earning potential
- Games, polls, and contests barely pay any points
- PayPal withdrawal costs more points than free gift cards
In short, Toluna has a variety of rewards and is easy to use, but don’t expect to get rich by using this get-paid-to website.
Other Websites Like Toluna
If you like the idea of Toluna but want more opportunities to make money online, you actually have plenty of options.
There are numerous Toluna alternatives where you can share your opinion to get paid.
Some of the best sites like Toluna include:
- Branded Surveys: One of my favorite survey sites that lets you cash out at only $5.
- Pinecone Research (U.S.): Get paid $3 for every survey you complete with this leading survey site.
- Swagbucks: Complete a variety of short online tasks to earn free gift cards and cash.
- Survey Junkie: Answer surveys and cash out with gift cards or PayPal money once you earn $5.
- MyPoints: Answer surveys and shop online to earn rewards!
Again, all of these survey sites aren’t going to revolutionize your finances. However, you can realistically earn an extra $20 to $100+ per month if you grind out some surveys with these platforms.

Final Thoughts: Is Toluna Worth It?
This Toluna review wouldn’t be complete without my honest opinion.
The earning potential for Toluna is pretty low, so keep this in mind. Sure, it’ll make you a few dollars per month, but that’s about it.
Plus, there are much better survey sites like Prolific that can make you nearly $5 per day, and you don’t have to qualify to take surveys.
Alternatively, you can definitely make more money if you try out different driving gigs, like making money with DoorDash or Instacart.
Yes, Toluna is legit and pays users, but don’t think you’re going to make a fortune here.
If you’re fine with the low earnings and just want to give it a shot, then Toluna is definitely a legit and reliable company to earn from.
